Food that fills the stomach and feeds the soul.
Fried chicken and waffles, cioppino, chuck roast, gnocchi bolognese—what do all these things have in common? Two simple things: they comfort the soul, and they're all available at Carmel's newest restaurant in their most decadent forms.
The bolognese tastes like it's been delicately melding for hours, enriching the tomatoes and rendering the beef until pull-apart tender. Clams, mussels, scallops, and more lend their essence to the complex and decadent cioppino broth, like a well-curated gallery displaying the bounty of the ocean in all its splendor. The cinnamon cereal cake was the more fun cousin of a traditional tres leches cake: soft, moist, elegant, and soaked in full-bodied, indulgent flavor.
The Sunday Meatballs, melt-in-your mouth tender and available every day.
It's hard to believe that all these offerings are on the same menu, and even harder to believe that each dish is executed so well. Usually, one place has the best pasta, another the best steak, and a third the best burger and wings. Not anymore. Regardless of which comfort dish the night calls for, odds are that Nora's has the dish to completely satisfy all the cravings. Pizza, wings, sandwiches, meatloaf, carbonara—comfort classics from multiple cuisines, all under the same roof.
The Cinnamon Cereal cake—there was nothing left on this plate within a minute of taking the photo.
The atmosphere, like the food, leaves nothing to be desired. Lively, comfortable, and full of the kind of smiles and laughter people share after a satisfying meal. Nothing less would be expected from the ownership family that is responsible for downtown staples like Dametra and Anton & Michel. There is no doubt that Nora's is around to stay and—thanks to their extremely reasonable prices—will undoubtedly become the go-to spot for many of Carmel's happy eaters.
